About Ronald A. Blair
Ronald is the second of fourteen children of Mortimer and Geneva Blair and hails from Somerton in the parish of James. His father, being an itinerant evangelist, traveled with the family through several communities in the western part of the island. The family lived for many years in Maryland, Somerton, and March Town in Hanover. Most of his early schooling saw him at the Somerton Primary School. He was a brilliant student.
Ronald and his siblings knew poverty and hard work, but they were kept together by their godly parents who brought them up in the fear of God. This accounted for Ronald accepting the Lord at the age of seventeen. From then on it was no turning back for him.
The journey of his life took him to the United States of America on the Farm Work programme. This was short-lived, however, because of his willingness to respond to the call of God on his life to attend Bible College. According to the purpose of God, he was released from the programme, and in a couple of months, he was accepted at the Bethel Bible College in 1959. As a disciplined, hardworking, and conscientious student, he was appointed as President of the Student Council.
In 1962 he graduated from the Bethel Bible College with a Diploma in Theology. In 1874 he graduated from the International Bible College and Seminary, receiving a Bachelor in Theology. In 1999 he was conferred the Doctor of Religious Education Degree from the European Theological Seminary, United Kingdom.
After his graduation in 1962, Rev. Blair was appointed to serve as pastor for the Flagstaff and Garlands churches in St. James. During his tenure in this part of the vineyard, he also preached out and organized the Vaughnsfield Church. From there he was transferred to serve as pastor for the Oracabessa Church and District Overseer for the Oracabessa District of Churches. Over the next nearly Forty-five years of ministry, he has served as pastor for the Jordon Road in Kingston, Mile Gully in Manchester, Eastwood Park and Waltham Park in St. Andrew, Portmore in St. Catherine and now again at the Waltham Park Road Church as Pastor and District Overseer for the Waltham Park District of Churches.
In 1979 he was appointed as the pioneer National Youth & Christian Education Director, for the New Testament Church of God in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, after having served as Chairman of the Youth Board for four years.
In 1986 Rev. Blair was appointed as National Overseer for the Denomination in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. After 8 years he was reappointed to the position and served another four-year term, from 1998 to 2002. He has also served his denomination on several Boards and Committees – as a member of the Island Executive Council, member/chairman of the Education Board, Finance Committee, and Disciplinary Committee, to name a few.
He is a prolific Bible Teacher and preacher. His preaching/teaching ministry has taken him across the miles to the United States of America, Canada, England, the Eastern Caribbean Islands, and throughout the length and breadth of Jamaica. In addition to this, he served as a lecturer at Bethel Bible College, Kingston Extension, and Dean of that same institution for five years.
Rev. Blair has authored three books, “Youth and You,” “The Plan of Salvation” and others.
Despite his hectic pastoral duties over the years, Rev. Blair has given service to his community in various fields, including:
Chairman of the Committee for the Promotion of National Religious Services,
Chairman of the National Religious Media Company
Chairman of the Jamaica Association of Full Gospel Churches
Chairman of the Portmore Ministers’ Fraternal.
He has been recognized by the Government and people of Jamaica for outstanding work in religion and was awarded the Prime Minister’s Medal of Award in 1983, the Order of Distinction in 1987, and Commanders of the Order in 2017. He is a Justice of the Peace for St. Andrew.
Rev. Blair is married to Evon and they have four beautiful daughters, Nadine, Delva, Novia, and Paula, and two sons-in-law Leon-Lee Roberts and David Dunn. They are the proud grandparents of Talisa Emilie, Leon Sebastian Blair, and Ruthann Dunn.
Ronald attended the Somerton All-Age School, received a Diploma in Theology from Bethel Bible College, a Bachelor in Theology from the International Bible Institute, and a Doctor of Religious Education from European Theological Seminary.
