In Loving Memory of Reverend Dr. Ronald A. Blair

Ronald A. Blair, the second of fourteen children born to Mortimer and Geneva Blair, hailed from Somerton in the parish of St. James, Jamaica. As the son of an itinerant evangelist, his early years were spent traveling across western Jamaica, particularly in Maryland, Somerton, and March Town in Hanover. He received his early education at Somerton Primary School, where he stood out as a brilliant and disciplined student.

Though Ronald and his siblings experienced poverty and the demands of hard work, they were firmly grounded by the unwavering faith and values of their godly parents. At the age of seventeen, he accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior—a decision that would shape the course of his life and ministry. From that moment forward, he never turned back.

His journey led him briefly to the United States on the Farm Work Programme, but he soon felt the divine call to full-time ministry. In obedience, he left the programme and was accepted into Bethel Bible College in 1959. Known for his diligence, humility, and leadership, he was elected President of the Student Council. In 1962, he graduated with a Diploma in Theology. He later earned a Bachelor in Theology from the International Bible College and Seminary (1974) and was awarded a Doctor of Religious Education from the European Theological Seminary (1999).

Reverend Blair’s ministry was both deep and far-reaching. His pastoral appointments included churches in Flagstaff, Garlands, Vaughnsfield, Oracabessa, Jordan Road (Kingston), Mile Gully, Eastwood Park, Portmore, and Waltham Park, where he served as both pastor and District Overseer.

In 1979, he became the pioneer National Youth and Christian Education Director for the New Testament Church of God in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, after previously serving as Chairman of the Youth Board. He later served two terms as National Overseer (1986–1994, 1998–2002), and remained a devoted leader and mentor, contributing to numerous boards and committees including the Island Executive Council, Education Board, Finance Committee, and Disciplinary Committee.

A passionate and prolific Bible teacher, Rev. Blair’s ministry extended far beyond Jamaica. He preached and taught across the United States, Canada, England, the Eastern Caribbean, and throughout his homeland. He also served as lecturer and Dean of the Bethel Bible College, Kingston Extension. His published works include *Youth and You*, *The Plan of Salvation*, and others that continue to impact many.

Rev. Blair also offered distinguished service to the wider community. He held leadership roles such as:

– Chairman, Committee for the Promotion of National Religious Services
– Chairman, National Religious Media Company
– Chairman, Jamaica Association of Full Gospel Churches
– Chairman, Portmore Ministers’ Fraternal

In recognition of his exemplary contributions to faith and nation, he was awarded the Prime Minister’s Medal of Award (1983), the Order of Distinction (1987), and the Commander of the Order of Distinction (2017). He also served as a Justice of the Peace for St. Andrew.

Rev. Blair was a devoted husband to Evon Blair and a loving father to four daughters—Nadine, Delva, Novia, and Paula—and sons-in-law Leon-Lee Roberts and David Dunn. He was a proud grandfather to Talisa Emilie, Leon Sebastian Blair, and Ruthann Dunn.

Though he has transitioned from this earthly life, Reverend Dr. Ronald A. Blair’s legacy of faith, leadership, and service lives on in the countless lives he touched. His life was truly a testimony to God’s faithfulness and a reflection of unwavering commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

May he rest in eternal peace and rise in glory.
